Answers:    I smoke like a chimeny and was never told to clean out my mouth after every smoke.

When my lip was healing I be told to buy gly-oxide. (any drug store like Walgreen's should have it) It's an antiseptic oral cleaner that will preserve your new piercing very verbs. i used it twice a day for the first two weeks and never had a problem beside my lip. I wouldn't be worried about the smoking so much. The most important entry is to not touch it all the time!

I'm I going to be ok...or am I screwed??

rinse your mouth out with brackish water (1 teaspoon slat to 1 cup water) no more or you can burn your piercing after you smoke. Only rinse with mouthwash after you drink, you can also dilute the mouthwash with water- like 1/2 dampen 1/2 mouthwash. I would highly recommend using distilled water for the brackish rinse and for diluting the mouthwash. Rinsing every half hour with mouthwash will certainly delay healing- your lip piercing is depending on the good microbes in your mouth to heal correctly, mouthwash can mess up that straitlaced balance. After about one week of rinsing beside salt water every partially hour I would switch to just plain water. Also soaking your piercing contained by salt water every two days or so will assistance healing, I would make up a thaw salt water soak, pour some into a shot cup and hold it over your piercing for about ten minutes. I have used simply salt water to treat piercings and it works beautiful oh yeah.. the salt have to be sea salt you can buy it surrounded by the grocery store. sanitize it and keppe it spaced and dry
