What is the CAMs team and what are they going to do to me?
Recently someone found out that I have been self harming and contacted the hospital who made me an appointment to see the ''Cams team'' at a mental hospital where on earth they will do ''an assesment''. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it will be like? I live within the UK
I'm worried about going...what are they going to ask me?
I think CAMs stands for Child & Adolescent Mental Centre... or something close to that.

Answers: refers to clinical mental health care and includes assessment, thought planning, treatment/intervention, case coordination, referral.
services will be provided to children and adolescents and their families who present difficulties that suggest the presence of serious mental disorder or that nearby is a high risk of such disorder. Service priority will be given to suicidal and severely disturbed or disordered children and adolescents whose behaviour is cause risk of harm to self or others. The nature of the presenting problems may include:
Suicidal thoughts and way of life
Psychotic phenomena (eg. hallucinations, delusions)
Prolonged sadness or depressed/agitated, irritable mood
Emotional distress and/or behavioural problems contained by the context or relational or family problems
Excessive anxiety, fearfulness, phobic behaviours
Obsessional thoughts and compulsive rituals
Eating and body model disturbances
Difficulties for children of parents with mental health infection
The assessment of the child includes a review of physical and mental health, intelligence, school reading, family situation, and behavior in the community. The assessment identify the strengths of the child and family. Together, the caregiver and family resolve what kind of treatment and supports, if any, are needed.

Yes, they are the child and adolescent mental health squad and they will want to talk, or more likely listen, to you. They are not going to update you off, or belittle anything you tell them. They want to think through what has led you to mar yourself so that they can work with you to change this demeanour. If there is a depressive element contained by the causation the team doctor will probably prescribe anti-depressents. If you are really anti taking medication they can't force you.
Please be assured that they want to help you, and they will be seriously more understanding than your GP.

they are just going to ask what made you want to self spoil.what you get out of self harming.how do you consider self harming will help you accomplish your target.they may confer you the guilt question of how would you feel if your self harm went too far and you killed yourself- you would be abandon your family. good luck and we are slightly helpful, if they are a good psychiatrist they will know how to turn your life around! Why are you worried? you were the one harm yourself. From what you have said these people are going to try to back you. Why be afraid of them and you sound as tho you are going to try and hinder your own backing.
Be calm, take a weighty breath and know that there is only correct things coming your way.

They just articulate to you like and ask how you are it is a bit like seeing a psychotherapist. After they write to your doctor and tell them what they feel is the best treatment for you. I be scared they were going to branch me lol but they didn't! They will ask you about symptoms of mental illness, so you can be diagnosed and treated as expected. "Zombifying" drugs (antipsychotics) would probably not be used in your condition, at least not within high doses.
It's actually spelt CAMHS which funds Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. They dont do anything just speak :)

You should possibly talk with your doctor, they should be capable of answer your question . Hope all go well for you. They will just sermon to you, they'll try to find the reason why you harm yourself and imagine of a sollution to resolve the problem, they really want to help you, remember its not that they want to do anything to you, they really want to help and they will listen to everything that you bring up to date them and they will never tell it to anyone els, believe me, Me and my friend when to talk to a psychiatrist but you entail to go more than once because just once might not support you that much. Depending on the problem that you have, they might prescribe that you take some pills but you dont own to take them allthough The pills will help you, believe me, I've be drinking anti depro pills for more than a year, they dont change who you are (a depression is more biological than psychological), what you need to do is find out what the pills in reality do to you, I promise you that they are only there to relieve you. I hope everything goes well. But please progress read at what the pills actually do, i promise you they hellp and renember that they wont force you to drink or do something you dont want to, they really want to help...well brought-up luck. Go to the CAMs, what harm can come from it if they just want to abet...

You do need the help the professionals can furnish you, even if it is with meds. My niece was a cutter, and the mental condition facility here in the US put her on Trazadone, and done a lot of counseling near her. She is now doing fine, and will graduate this year with honors. YOU can also obtain better if you will let the adults help you, by you conversation and telling them how you feel, and cooperating next to what they suggest. The meds they give you isn't going to make you into a zombie, and if they do, after tell you pdoc or consellor, as that would be over medicating you. YOU don't need to be over medicated, freshly help with your emotion.
