Any assistance! how i can bulk up my legs in need coursing to much strain on my joint? i have skinny legs so?

i ruined my knee years ago playing football and terminated up with skinny legs after 2 months on crutches.
I built mine back up by doing the following once a week just with a week off every 2 months..
Leg presses - 4 sets of 25, never training til total end.
calf presses - 4 sets of 25 - training til failure.
hamstring cursl 3 sets of 15 - never training til failure.
mountain biking when ever i could (i cant stress how obedient this is for the legs - riding up hills is excellent low impact training for the thighs)
I cannot and will not use a leg extension machine as this cause me pain still in my knees.
Im also in my ealry 30's so your age shouldnt be an issue.
If im doing 20 pushups and 100 crunchs a year how long till i see results?
you maybe doing too much too soon. you didn't mention how long you enjoy been weight training. if you are alien to it, don't be so gun-ho! take your time. proper form is needed, make sure you are squating and lunging correctly. hold someone check your form. do you have pre-exisiting knee problem? this could agravate it. you may also be overtraining. it doesn't event how many squats etc. you do, its the quality your doing. doing a bunch or exercises contained by correclty will cause injury. also make sure you rest your legs, 48 hours needed to rest, muscle grow and obtain stronger when they rest, not when your a working them. eat well too, rest, obtain enough protein and hydrate.
check out this site: www.bodybuilding.com its my favorite get surrounded by a pool and swim, or do those squats and lunges in the pool the water creates risitance but it also take a load off your joint, and try running in the water, its tricky but it does work all your muceles. the best part is its great for adjectives ages and its fun! so go dive right in!
gag: also do other things you enjoy try to volenteer to help next to a youth group, be a mentor to a kid take them swimming or to play football, basketball what ever you both can enjoy, the fun distracts you from the integral piont of working out, the pool will be the best for your joints though, it also may be a good concept to go to pharmacy and get a vitamin that help lubricate your joints, just enlighten the pharmasist what is going on with your knee and ask for them, they enjoy helped my back and my knees alot, disastrously i may need spinal surgery soon but i wont be getting it, my kids need me live even if it hurts me :)
