It an artificial sweetener in soft drinks like diet coke, chewing gum and artificial foods etc. Taken in large doses it can cause tumours and can lead to Alzheimer's. It's really not good for you.
For a sweet alternative try Stevia. It is a natural, healthy alternative to sweeteners, it's a herb that grows in south america and has many health benefits. It's not approved by the FDA because the sugar/sweetener business would go bust, therefore you normally can't buy it in shops and no doctor would recommend it as it's a herb, but you can get it on the internet and many people with health problems take it..
