Promethazine - Anti Nausea drug that can double as a sleeping pill?
I've had to leave work twice not long because I thought I was going to pass out. First time I saw my doc and he run a ton of blood work. All ok. Yesterday was the second time... And yes, both times I had taken a Promethazine pill that morning.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone else that have taken this med.
Answers: Well, personally I found Phenergan caused me to become extremely drowsy as ably. But that's not surprising, because one of the lesser known uses for the drug is as a flimsy sedative to induce a light sleep you can effortlessly arouse the patient from. It used to be used to calm deeply nervous patients prior to a minor procedure, sometimes even for dental procedures. So the fact you crash asleep isn't a real surprise. Some people are more susceptible to that side effect than others, and it of late depends on the person how drowsy "slightly drowsy" really ends up being. It can also interact next to other medications you are taking, and the effect can be enhanced in some cases. The average developed dose is 25 mg, but depending on your tolerance and reaction, that dosage can be split in partially and taken at two different times. What you describe is not an unexpected effect of the drug, in certainty, it's one of the reasons the drug is chosen sometimes. Just work with your doctor to adjust the dosage or timing to work better for your wants.
