Sometimes UTIs are resistant to lasting antibiotics (especially sulfa!). If he's been taking an antibiotic for several days and hasn't noticed a difference, he should be in motion back to the doctor. They can re-test the urine to verify that the infection is still there, and furnish a different antibiotic.
Meanwhile, drinking lots of water or cranberry juice will backing, though it's not as effective as antibiotics. And NOT drinking enough hose down will probably make it worse.
If it not a problem with his prostrate, drink lots of pure cranberry liquid. NOT cranberry drink mixes, ie: Cran-Apple, Cran-Grape, etc. take him back to a urologist! this cannot dance on! was he at a specialist? if not cart him in! these things are for specialists not us! good luck to him!
