Health Question

How do I find a nursing home for my 75 year-old mother?

Answers:
That is so tough!! You will undoubtedly get lots of upright advice here on Answers.

I reckon the first thing that requirements to be done is to define is the horizontal of skilled nursing she requires, and the main physical common sense that she needs the nursing. For instance, a character with Alzheimer's or other dementia is probably not going to be powerfully served in a nursing home to be exact heavily used for physical rehab. I went to mixed web sites including Medicare, that rate nursing homes based on standard review criteria, but surrounded by the end, I did not find that info as adjectives as I had hoped.

Let me put in the picture you my experience, it is probably not the usual, thank heaven, but I a short time ago want to share it.

My mom and dad were admit to a respected hospital in a prosperous nouns on the same light of day, she for imbalance and falling and in principle advanced Alzheimer's; he, for physical injuries from trying to be her one and only caretaker. At the hospital, she get out of bed and fell out of bed multiple times a day whenever relatives was not at her side. Two days subsequent, they were both admit to an "award-winning" nursing home, locally touted as best of the best and with no violation. (This is in Florida, so in that was no shortage of competition). Mom already looked close to she had be dropped out of a plane, she had so various swollen and discolored bruises and lacerations.
Dad received excellent physical rehab here and was out surrounded by less than two weeks. After a month, my mom have fallen and broken her hip (right AT the nursing station). She could not communicate her requirements, and often have impacted stools and other such pains that she could not describe. I found out that at no time did they realize she had a substantial partial denture! One daytime she managed to communicate to me that they be "always barmy at her".

Against everyone's advice, and next to great trepidation, I moved her to another nursing home in town. It have a bad rep and various violations. But it have an Alzheimer's wing. Yes, it was a disappointing and maddening nuthouse, but to be precise what they did and they did it well, by our experience. Mom lived another 18 months in attendance, and never had a dribble or an injury, and as far as I could tell, not a soul was overlooked, but neither were they ever scold. When I had to return to Virginia, I be comforted by knowing that I had found the best place for her. I be kept informed of every little thing -- within were not abundant -- as was my dad who be back at home near the nursing home.

I am telling you this NOT to terrify you, but to advise you to keep hold of your eyes and ears open and don't put your total and unquestioning trust contained by the hands of "experts", ratings or even hearsay. Don't settle if you are not as healthy as you think you should be near the arrangements.

Best of luck to both of you!
Do not jump into the first one you find. Make sure that it is a place where on earth she will be comfortable and have her wishes met. Tour different facilities and ask in the order of the routines and staffing... how many clients per staff accomplice etc. Also keep surrounded by mind the proximity to family and how graceful it will be for family to procure there to stop by her. Best of luck to you, I am sure this is not an easy time.
Ask lots of question when you get here and look around the facility. This can usually be done during that Nursing Homes business hours. Check out other patients,do they look cared for? do the team look neat and verbs..happy to be at their post or do they looked stressed? Does the nursing home smell of foul odors? does it look dirty and unkempt?
Many nursing homes are usually short staffed. Look at the nursing homes contained by your area and google them, ask to see their closing state survey. Do they have a soaring skin rate(which means alot of bed sores) It is aloud to be see by the public. The internet will provide you with links to check out the services near you and what their state survey be.
My best advice is to choose a nursing home to be exact SMALL and comfortable when you walk surrounded by. What is their menu like? is it food that your mom will wallow in? do they offer alternates at buffet time incase she does not want it?
Another big thing is this..formulate sure you visit your mom recurrently. Make sure that you understand the ratio from patients to a CNA(most places a caretaker will own up to 15-20 patients to care for on her own). The CNA's(certified nursing assistants) are required to check their patients and assist them next to their needs but it is a awfully overwhelming position and family member should come up there as much as possible to be involved next to the patients daily routines. The CNA's are not competent to be in every patients room every 15 minutes for they enjoy patients to feed,go in swimming,change,turn,etc..so you must be enormously understanding of this formerly you decide a nursing home is the best finding.
The healthcare industry has its pro's and con's and beside Nursing homes..its all roughly speaking choosing the best one in your nouns. You must do your research..even talk to other clan members that hold their loved ones there too.
I’m a writer for Gilbert Guide, the foremost resource for everything senior thinking. It looks like the other answerers give some great advice for judge a facility once you arrive. Having helped oodles families move through this process, I own some easy-to-follow advice for decide which facilities to call on.

1. Make a list of your mother’s requests and potential future requests. Do she require a facility that cares for ethnic group with mild memory impairment? Does she enjoy special dietary requirements? Will she require more than two weekly showers? Does she require assistance with ingestion?

2. Decide on a location. Are you flexible with geography, or do you requirement to find a facility within a secure radius?

3. What type of funding will you be using? Private? Long-term care insurance?

4. Will you be looking for private accommodation?

5. Is a full activity programme important to your mother?

With these question in mind, you should very soon formulate a list of the nursing homes surrounded by your area so you can ascertain which unite your needs in the past you begin making visit. I recommend using Gilbert Guide’s online subscription service to find local facilities and answer adjectives these questions. You can read neutral reviews of the nursing homes in your nouns if you live in any of the following regions: Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, Bay Area, CA, San Francisco, East Bay, CA, Los Angeles, CA New York City, NY or Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, TX. If you do not live within these areas, visit http://www.medicare.gov/ for a register of local facilities. You won’t be capable of read reviews, but you’ll still be able to formulate a chronicle so you can call for answers. Make sure to check the deficiency for each facility. Keep contained by mind many nursing homes hold deficiencies. What’s influential is whether or not they were resolved, how and how vigorously.

Medicare has a comprehensive nursing home checklist that you can bring next to you to each facility you call round:

Diazapam - effects of long residence use?

I have be taking diazapam for over a year now for hindmost pain, 5mg per time. I have read that long residence use is not good for you.

Apart from the addictive side of things what other things can long permanent status use do to your body/mind?
Answers:
Diazepam is NOT a pain medication and whoever prescribed it to you for distress is very tremendously wrong...The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) does not approve diazepam for pain nouns. Diazepam is a sedative, anxiolyitc, muscle relaxant, antiepileptic but not analgesic...The following is a enumerate of the indications for its use:

INDICATIONS AND USAGE
Diazepam is indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term nouns of the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety or tension associated beside the stress of everyday life usually does not require treatment near an anxiolytic.

In acute alcohol withdrawal, diazepam may be adjectives in the symptomatic nouns of acute agitation, tremor, impending or acute delirium tremens and hallucinosis.

Diazepam is a useful nouns for the relief of skeletal muscle spasm due to reflex spasm to local pathology (such as inflammation of the muscles or joint, or secondary to trauma); spasticity cause by upper motor neuron disorders (such as cerebral palsy and paraplegia); athetosis; stiff-man syndrome; and tetanus.

Oral diazepam may be used adjunctively contained by convulsive disorders, although it has not proved adjectives as the sole therapy.

Here are the adverse effects associated next to its use:

ADVERSE REACTIONS
Side effects most commonly reported were drowsiness, fatigue and ataxia. Infrequently encounter were confusion, constipation, depression, diplopia, dysarthria, headache, hypotension, incontinence, jaundice, change in libido, nausea, change in salivation, skin impulsive, slurred speech, tremor, urinary retention, vertigo and blurred vision. Paradoxical reaction such as acute hyperexcited states, anxiety, hallucinations, increased muscle spasticity, insomnia, strength, sleep disturbances and stimulation have be reported; should these occur, use of the drug should be discontinued.

Because of isolated reports of neutropenia and jaundice, intermittent blood counts and liver function tests are advisable during long-term psychiatric help. Minor changes within EEG patterns, usually low-voltage brisk activity, hold been observed within patients during and after diazepam therapy and are of no specified significance.

DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE
Withdrawal symptoms, similar in part to those noted with barbiturates and alcohol (convulsions, tremor, abdominal and muscle cramps, vomiting and sweating), hold occurred following offhand discontinuance of diazepam. The more severe withdrawal symptoms enjoy usually been fixed to those patients who had received excessive doses over an extended length of time. Generally milder withdrawal symptoms (e.g., dysphoria and insomnia) own been reported following snappy discontinuance of benzodiazepines taken continuously at therapeutic level for several months. Consequently, after extended therapy, offhand discontinuation should generally be avoided and a gradual dosage lessened schedule followed. Addiction-prone individuals (such as drug addict or alcoholics) should be under scant surveillance when receiving diazepam or other psychotropic agents because of the predisposition of such patients to habituation and dependence.

As you can see at hand are some changes surrounded by the electrical activity of the brain after long possession use but their significance has not be clarified so far...The cross-examine of whether long-term use of benzodiazepines (such as diazepam) may cause persist cognitive impairment and structural brain changes have long been debate.....

Once again, this is NOT a pain medication...You have need of to gradually taper and eventually stop using it and substitute it beside another form of treatment which will be more appropriate...
Diazapam is a type of medicine call BENZODIAZEPINE, used for sedative and anxiety, relieving effects..

DO NOT embezzle it for more than 4 months--chk the website

www.nlm.gov/medlineplus

You may /will need give a hand to get of this drug...
There are no highest long term poisonous effects. As you already know it is very addictive. you really hold been taking it for too long already. I'll be frank, for yesteryear 15 years I have merely used benzodiazepines
( the drug group diazepam belongs to), in epilepsy. I have a feeling that using them in support pain is not proper as the risks of addiction out way any beneficial benefit.

If you want to get sour them try dropping a mg at a time at 4 week intervals and it will probably be fine.
I have have 3 back operation. Each time I was offfered Diazapam. I took it the first time and get high as a kite, so refuse it after that and suffered in silence.
Diazapam sell well on the drugs marketplace. If it's good adequate for druggies - then don't touch it. Tell your doc you want something else. A suitable doc will switch your medicine from time to time anyway.
Have a apt flight!

Hydrogen peroxide? iS adjectives this true? ~~~REALLY~~~?

HOW TO BEGIN PEROXIDE THERAPY
Each state is different, but in standard, if you’re going to start
peroxide therapy, you’re going to own to follow some rules established
for receiving an experimental psychiatric therapy, because that’s what
peroxide is usually considered.
That means that you will feasible need a history and a physical
exam which go somewhat beyond just your chief complaint. Some
lab work or other test might be needed also. You should obtain your
historic medical records which support your diagnosis, so that repeating
test becomes unnecessary and the diagnosis become clearer.
Now, if you’ve got the flu, for example, all right then you’ve get the
flu and there’s no time nor reason to do a pile of test. A short
examination and history is adjectives you’ll need previously sitting down for
your treatment. But for any chronic illness, the doctor will want to
articulate to you for a while, and design a plan for treating the problem,
using peroxide, and anything else which might be useful.
Answers:
Well, I own heard of adjectives this before. I one-sidedly do not know if it is true, because I have not tried it nonetheless, though if you read more into holistic or alternative medicines, if you believe any of what you read, it adjectives starts to make sense.

I would truly try this if I thought I needed to for some reason. Keep within mind though, there are plentiful different strengths of peroxide and the kind they use for this is not only just the kind you can draw from off the shelf at Wal-Mart. The nature you can get at the store is not to be thieve internally, but there is a "food-grade" type that can be used for adjectives those things you listed.

A lot of ethnic group don't want to believe there is anything that can abet other than regular doctors and manufactured drugs. That simply isn't true.

If you want to know more, look it up online, here is TONS of information out there -- you could start by google-ing "hydrogen peroxide therapy" and newly go on from here.
I'm sorry but I never heard of such a piece. I'm curious though.
wow this is all report to me, but I am very interested within reading up on it. Thanks for the link.

There shall be no selling of body parts outside of Ebay.
That's closely of money just to create a pie.
Isn't that illegal?
Cad will lift 2 plus a lung ... I say are your eyes any well-mannered ?
No. Thanks. Not Kidneys. Steak and Onion good, steak and ale worthy, steak and mushroom good. But steak and kidney...thats merely wrong. Do you know what Kidneys are used for inside a body?! Why would anyone wanna eat that?!

Is it possible that eyeglasses could trademark your eyes worse?!?

I've had goggles for about two years very soon, and before, I could see pretty worthy, but not perfect, so the eye doctor give me glasses. Well, NOW, I can't even formulate out anything that's 10 feet within front of me!
Answers:
yes.
Yes it happend to me!
i think so. my eyeglasses are out of focus. i think i want new ones.
The prescription could hold been full up incorrectly and you are wearing bad specs. Also, your eyes could have freshly gotten worse. You need an eye exam once a year. Let the eye Dr. check your goggles to see if you got what he prescribed.
If you wear eyeglasses all the time, your brain become accustomed to them. When you're no longer wearing them, you can't see as well because the brain take awhile to readjust to the blurred image. Over time, if you don't wear your goggles, your eyes/brain readjust to allow you to see somewhat clearer.

Your eyes are no worse, unless your prescription is changing, you're only just not used to seeing lacking glasses anymore.
yes and dont continue to long to go backbone and see the doctor it could possibly damage your eyes further, something is wrong and your eyes inevitability to be seen almost,if it is not your glasses it could be something else cause it .................good luck
I've hear of that. Glasses don't fix anything, they just alleviate symptoms and I enjoy heard that they can spawn your eyes lazy which is why your fantasy gets worse.
you can try eye doing exercises to promote your vision. I only just started doing eye exercises to try to improve my figment of the imagination. I created a blog where I diary my progress with the exercises.

I just now saw some improvement. Other family (who have also experienced improvements) own posted comments about their experiences as in good health. You can check it out at: http://improvingmyeyesight.com/blog...

Hope this helps...

Can blind folks look directly at the sun?

Is it possible for a blind person to plunder their eyes by looking at the sun? Do they feel any discomfort?
Answers:
depends on what quality of blindness they have
even if a personality is blind he can feel the intensity of neutral so no
well obviosly it's not gonna smash up there nightmare, but it's still gonna burn like hell if they stare at the sun specifically why many blind population where foggy sunglasses to avoid discomfort in valise they accidently look at the sun.
yes, it damages their eyes cuz even though they can't see, the lens of their eyes focuses that light on the inside posterior of their eye and it's just resembling when you hold a magnifying chalice in the sun over an ant--you burn a hole contained by the back of your eye. If you do it long plenty, you can burn the optic nerve and your brain.

In some countries, they use this as a form of slow torture. Don't relate Bush though, he'll want to try it on someone.

My dorm room smells what should I do?

I live in a dorm room, it is massively small and it smells like sweat. I use sprays and I resign from my window stretch out. Oh, Yeah inscents and candles are out the question.
Answers:
Maybe bring some febreze and the thing i do for this seize some dryer sheets that smell good and later stick them in your nouns vents every time the warmness or air comes on it will blow that smell throughout the room!
seize the spray they use in the hospital it doesnt hold a strong after smell but neutralizes smells
use incense or candles. my doomroom smells of sex however i one and only use inncescse when a girl is coming ova
Tell your dormmates to do their laundry
buy air fresheners.......................
If i be you i would just help yourself to everything out and clean it top to bottom. And consequently put air fresherners within to make it smell resembling a flower
you could use the things that you plug into an outlit... those work well. buy a couple and use them adjectives the time.
get some Air Wick Stick Ups the work extremely great
hollow sented oil. it works similar to a charm. you can't even smell my trash can and it's full of poopoo diapers.
There is the airwick thing that I get, it sprays every 5 10 or 30 minutes so that your room is always fresh. I love it.
all right, leaving the porthole open is a great start, after do some serious cleaning(vaccum, laundry...) then one word: Febreeze!
Hm. Did you try febreeze? The one for furniture, rugs, etc. Not the aerosol can.
Try Febreeze.
Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Put a box in the vicinity the hamper, another in close proximity the shoe rack, another in the closet, etc. ,etc...particularly effective contained by absorbing all kind of odor. Replace often - resembling every 4-6 weeks - more economical than those expensive sprays
(which could be bad for your form anyway).
Do your laundry more often, verbs your room into the corners and under everything beside a mild bleach solution or disinfecting cleaner and spray an anti bacterial spray. Then take a shower back you come back contained by al sweaty and gross and don't leave drizzling stuff piled up in your laundry.

All the other stuff, Febreeze, Airwick, etc... jst covers up the problem. Bad smells usually come from germs and cleaning is the only tangible solution.
Try mopping with pine sol or spicnspan and you hold carpet try spraying the hearth rug with a runner deodorizer
Everybody has the cover-up suggesstions but I have an idea that you need to find the source of the smell. It may be a mold underneath the carpet, etc. A thorough cleaning is difinitely surrounded by order.
Assuming you adjectives know where the showers are and how to use them, and the wash machine.

Giving everyone shower gel and talcum powder as a contribution would probably get you overcome up .

Using a good cleaner on adjectives the room's surfaces, might make you
a target too( though you could try have a "cleaning party" where individuals get prizes for the smelliest stuff they throw out, and you adjectives
clean your own little patch.

The best " cover up " is
Neutradol gel orb and hide it near, or one either side of you probably. They are not as good as using the spray, but they are continuous, you can forget in the order of them once they're there. Or Dettol spray ( avoid Oust-it's smelly and ineffective)

M : )
My dorm room within college would get gamey- here were 3 of us sharing a room that be 10x12... weak! Anyway I used to unequivocal the windows and doors and afterwards sprinkle the carpets beside a deoderizer and then vacuum... everyone would do their laundry and rinse out their sheets and towels... usually it wasn't any one thing that cause the funk- it just happen when people crowd into a smaller space! Oh also net sure you or your roomates are leaving their shower shoes within the room, take them bad before you shift in or head off them in the bathrooms... they can grasp down right rank! A honourable trick is to stick dryer sheets in your drawers, underneath beds and surrounded by the closets... Also you can make a brand of impromptu diffuser by bring water to a simmer surrounded by a hot pot and adding potpourri.
I have an idea that everybody has to pitch contained by and change their sheets, rinse the towels and do their laundry. That should be done once a week, and you shouldn't just recycle your clothes; to be precise, letting them sit out for awhile doesn't make them verbs and ready to wear again. They obligation to be washed after every couple of wearings or so. Make sure the socks take washed for sure. Spray the sneakers next to Fabreze. If that's not possible, obtain some Oust Air Sanitizer and spray that regularly. Oh, if you eat food contained by your room, make sure here isn't something spoiled lurking around and get rid of the waste every night back bed. Sounds boring, I know.
I had matching problem with you. Try to check what creates the smell. It may be the bed or the covers. Try to verbs the smell it may be one of the roomates or whatever. It may be a limp rat because that happend to me. hope this helps :)

What are the risks of smoking a pack a hours of daylight at fifteen?

What could happen if you smoke a pack a morning and you're only fifteen years hoary?
Answers:
SMH.

The same as smoking one cigarette a day.
In rider to all the regular side affects you might not grow properly.
Your fifthteen beside a whole life span ahead of you! I wouldnt smoke at all and if you own to i would say conceivably 2 a day a pack a year kills adults imagin what its doing to your lungs please dont smoke quit and live a fine long life!
Lung cancer, COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic pneumonia, lofty blood pressure, poor circulation....umm... how much more are you looking for? How about wan teeth and fingers, clothes and hair that smell similar to smoke. Remember kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray.
Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, And May Complicate Pregnancy
you become channel cool

then die of cancer
lung cancer and or emphysema by time your by time your fifty probably less, disappearance before 60,not a flawless life
Right presently mabey nothing, but it will lock in up with you, and the cost, wow
A pack a time at the age of 15. Hmmm. Not hard to see. You will develop emphysema at an in advance age, maybe even cancer. Breathing will become a chore, especially if you are surrounded by gym class & have to run a distance. Your teeth will turn pale, your breath, clothes and hair will smell smoky.

Don't you enjoy anything better to do than this?
Well, short term outlook is not much!... BUT it's VERRRYYY addictive and if you don't stop soon you're going to be smoking for the rest of your SHORT natural life! The longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit! Please quit NOW! I am dying of lung cancer and my husband, son and family are DEVESTATED!!Please stop!!
Ever hear of CANCER?..I've lost two people surrounded by my family.. smoking doesn't help out you, it only lines the pockets of the tobacco industry and the doctors who treat those who smoke then down the years.. The same risks of anyone at any age. Cancer, Heart Attacks, Asthma, Enphysema. I started smoking at 15 because I thought it be cool and that it made me some hot shot but i quit a few months ago cuz not being competent to breath sucks.
Cancer, emphysema (breakdown of lung tissue), organ damage, and heart disease. These diseases reduce a person's ability to be usually active - and can be deadly. Each time a smoker lights up, that single cigarette takes more or less 5 to 20 minutes off the person's enthusiasm. Seeing that your friend is 15, they probably could care smaller amount about the long occupancy effects. However, some of the short term effects might be of interest to them. These include: fruitless skin since it restricts oxygen to blood vessels, doomed to failure breath and stinky clothes, yellow teeth and unsurprisingly poor performance within sports. Plus, did you know it could lead to fertility problems and impact sexual vigour in males?

On top of the strength risks, it's EXPENSIVE. Smoking a pack of cigarettes a day can cost going on for $1,800 dollars a year! Imagine what your friend could buy with that money. Not to mention how much more it would cost if your friend be busted for trying to cop some smokes underage.

The money part alone would sort me want to quit.
