EMT or Paramedic - is it worth it?
Answers: It can be a real rewarding point and a very devastating choice also! but there is a item called "ride along" which is where you stir on an ambulance and just watch what go on and then maybe you can trade name your decision when you actually see what you will become responsible for if you resolve to go forward with your work switch!! yes it is very exciting and you feel similar to your doing good and giving back to the community!! but this is a tremendously selfless job, you incredibly rarely get thank by the people you help and you will see the epitome of the human see and find its horrible and very sad! (so be prepared) step to your local fire department and speak with an officer of EMS and if you are CPR cert. you will have to sign some forms and later you can go on calls next to them(depending on their policies of course) the other thing is most paid departments are requiring that you also enjoy firefighter as well (again depending on the state you live in!) i love human being an EMT, but its not for everyone!! Maybe try being a volunteer first for awhile they can help wage for the classes and see how it goes and then you can switch if you similar to it! good luck to you! EDIT* In order for an ambulance to run (ALS) paramedic on the ship there has to be an EMT surrounded by the back with the long-suffering and medic!! ambulances mostly run only BLS(EMT) unless ALS is really needed!! in VA thats how it is! and EMT's in a minute can administer certain drugs and soon all EMT's will be pushing more drugs and doing more cardio tech!.
Well, EMTs and Paramedics are two different things. An EMT are cultured to assist in an ambulance under the supervision of a paramedic.
EMT revise the basics of emergency care. You can whip courses at a community college in your area. They across the world are from 1 month all the way to 6 months. You can pilfer advanced level EMT courses I believe.
A paramedic usually takes in the order of 2 years to complete and are pretty autonomous. If I understand correctly, there must be at lowest 1 parametic in an ambulance when on runs.
I would try taking the EMT course and see if you like it and mortgage on if you enjoy it..
they see some pretty horrifying stuff emt takes nearly 9 months i believe (FL) and paramedic is more schooling than that and as an emt you dont do as much as a paramedic
its up to you whether you can handle it the hours the sights you will see it can be rewarding too :) good luck.
If you similar to getting up in the middle of the night going on call, it can be pretty stressful, but exciting. But be aware - people do die. I'm not an EMT. You need to hold a really strong stomach, need to operate well beneath pressure. You will see some messed up s___.
