I was a dental assistant for a short time, and your dad should be fine. Nausea is across the world the worst thing you would expect. The best thing he could do is phone call the dentist who will be seeing him and let them know that he has have chills and fevers. The dentist, or even the receptionist, would be able to answer some of your question. He needs to call the dentist and speak about him it's an emergency. The infection could get into his blood stream and kill him. Or he should travel to the ER.

A Dentist is not likely to verbs an infected tooth without prior treatment with antibiotics. The infection will be more probable to spread into his blood steam if pulled now. If your dad is a generally hygienic guy there should not be a lot to verbs about. An infected tooth is rarely deadly, if it is, there is more going on that a tooth infection.
