A concussion quiz (please help)?
To return to play, I requirement a doctor's note. On fri. I went to an urgent carefulness facility where a FNP would not clear me. I passed every test she give and she said I did not have a concussion, however she sould not clear me.
This week I have 3 games and I NEED to be cleared. They said I can try again at the place I go to, but they will probably not clear me because every time I go there they do not treat anything or prescribe any nature of medicine. I cant get into my reg. doctor because he is booked.
What can I do to play?
Answers: If you didn't surpass the eye dilation test then you own a head injury. This is a very serious business and even though you are feeling good and are motivated to play, here are real reasons why you are not man cleared to play.
SECOND IMPACT SYNDROME being one.
A rare and usually deathlike result of concussion is Second Impact Syndrome. This syndrome develops when an athlete receives another head injury back fully recovering from the first. The second concussion may occur after a seemingly minor injury such as a blow to the chest that is strong satisfactory to jar the brain. After the injury, rapid, severe swelling of the brain leads to feverishly high pressure in the skull. At first, the athlete appears dazed, but, in a few seconds or minutes, he or she collapses and develops rapid dilation of pupils, loss of eye movement, and respiratory (breathing) downfall.
Additionally, the cumulative effect of having more than one concussion (if it doesn't kill you) can be irredeemable brain damage. (Every wonder why OJ does the stupid things he does?)
Head injuries are VERY serious and it sounds like everyone around you is taking great thought to make sure you're OK. I understand your frustration surrounded by not being able to sustain your team, but for the next week you're merely going to have to find other ways. How about becoming the troop videographer for a week?.
I understand why you HAVE to play. It seems exceedingly important to not miss any games, to keep your spot on the squad, and earn your time in the game to "letter" if your on varsity. The problem is what happen to you? A doctor must clear you to make sure that if you get hit again, you don't bring to a close up with brain damage (something rugged to imagine since your a kid and you feel fine) If the doctor clears you and something happen, its brain death for you, and a lawsuit for him.
You say you have a concussion and failed the PERLA test (eye dilation). If that's true, afterwards you had a mild concussion, which is a bruised brain (from your brain slamming into your skull) Think of a bad black and blue bruise on your leg, and see what happens if you take a shot smack into that bruise. Now only just imagine the thought of your brain being black and blue and taking another shot. Re bleeding surrounded by your brain can occur and permanent mar could occur. The doctors are only thinking of your all right being,
I personally would push for the doctor to clear me if I feel fine. So go to your Doctor who can clear you. Hopefully you can convince them that you are fine, but don't be angry if they don't. They are only looking out for your best interest.
