Answers:    The traditional "Hot Toddy" for helping colds is made with the liquid of a lemon (fresh is best), a tablespoon of honey, a shot of brandy or whiskey, and hot water.

In my personal experience, it does seem to be to open the nasal passage and helps to clear up the congestion. But presently, the American Lung Association have said that the use of alcoholic beverages for curing a cold is not good because it can raison d`¨ētre dehydration.
