What is the difference between the axial and appendicular skeleton?
Identify the difference between the axial and appendicular skeleton? Below are 2 boxes 1 definite for the Axial skeleton answer and 1 for the Appendicular.... any help much appreciated
Answers: The axial skeleton pretty much include the spine, skull and pelvis while the shoulders, hips knees, etc are part of the appendicular skeleton.
It stems from the possession "axis" from which movement is center around while appendicular refers to the "appendages"...ie, the legs, arms, etc.
The axial skeleton (as its name suggests) provides the axis of the body to which everything else is attached. So the axial skeleton is the cranium and vertebral column.
The appendicular skeleton consists of the "attachments", these are the shoulder and pelvic girdles and the arms and legs!
Good luck
