pray This is a tough question. The unadulterated thing is: why do you own insomnia? Hopefully there isn't something explicitly very stressful or cause you to worry (more than typical, I mean).
Otherwise:
1.Exercise and diet are really great. You'll probably need something more rigorous than walking though; take you pulse over 120 for 30 mins.
2.Good sleep hygiene. Use your bed for sleep and only sleep. No TV while contained by bed. No reading in bed. No smoking, alcohol or other drug use. No caffeine, including soda, after 2pm.
3.Medicine may lend a hand but is largely short term aid. Something like benadryl may work but commonly causes drowsiness the subsequent day. Other over the counter stuff includes Melanin (didn't work for me) or Valerian root (didn't work, either). With an MD's script you can return with Elavil or Trazodone. These didn't work for me, either. More cumbersome duty stuff includes Ambien or Lunesta (both work GREAT) and have nearly zilch overdose potential and very small tolerance potential. Finally, ancestors used to use Valium, ativan, or other benzos or barbiturates. I think you'll own a hard time getting this from a licensed doctor and should avoid them regardless.
4.Psychiatric eval. Everyone is seeing a shrink very soon and might help discover why you're having probs within the first place.
