How long does it filch for fentanyl to go and get out of your system?

my 75 year old grandma suffers from chronic dull pain, against my opinion, her doctor put her on a fentanyl patch she have it on for about 24 hours and become very sick...naseua, dizziness....she removed the patch more than 24 hours ago and is still have these symptoms, she called the doctor and he is giving her something for the symptoms and have put her back on percocet, she be on that before the fentanyl....my concern is how long is she going to grain the symptoms..??

Answers:    Hi,
Fentanyl has a half-life of more or less 7 hours (ie after 7 hours, half the drug remains. After another 7 hours, partly of that ....etc). But the patches work by releasing fentanyl into body fat, which then slowly release the drug into the blood stream over 72 hours. Your grandma may hold to wait in the region of 48 hours until the symptoms come down to a manage-able level. Be tremendously careful of giving her anymore opioids (oxycodone etc.) during this time as they may rationale respiratory depression.

Her symptoms however are nothing to verbs too much about since Fentanyl is a strong opioid and the first time you pinch it, you may experience dizziness, nausea, itching, severe constipation etc. These are somewhat normal and not really a produce for alarm.
* If she has respiratory depression (breathing difficulty), or severe histamine reaction then you should promptly take her to the ER.
(facial itching is adjectives amongst the anilido-piperidine drugs like fentanyl and can be intense, although IME this occur more with the ultra-potent fentanil analogues approaching alfentanil/brifentanil/lofentanil)

Hope this helps and surface free to IM/email me if you want.
AJ
