Hi, how long until the periosteum regrows?

Hi, I have just this minute had an endoscopic craniotomy. The periosteum be removed around the hole up to about 4cm from the hole. Why be so much removed? Also, how long until the periosteum regrows and how does it regrow? Does it regrow from the bone, the remaining periosteum or the skin? Thanks

Answers:    "An endoscopic craniotomy is another type of craniotomy that involves the insertion of a lighted scope next to a camera into the brain through a small incision in the skull."

"relieving pressure in the brain (intracranial pressure) by removing damaged or swollen areas of the brain that may be cause by traumatic injury or stroke"

I am assuming these could be reasons why they own removed so much of the periosteum.

From what I have studied, it take a while for bone growth to occur--it must go through the process of ossification.
