Are er physicians and gen practicioners trained to apply cast?

Need to find medical literature or articles that state ER physicians and general practicioners are trained to and regularly apply cast to patients with broken bones specifically to a child next to a broken arm

Answers:    not sure what specifically you're looking for - we DO NOT apply hard cast in the ER - once a fracture is see on the Xrays we will put on a splint (usually made out of Ortho-Glass/fiberglass) - we do not put hard cast on because the extremity will swell and could cause compartment syndrome. the splints we apply (usually the nurse or tech contained by the ER - rarely the physician or PA) are hard/rigid for support and immobility of the fracture - but wrapped contained by padding and ACE bandage so they can contract/expand.
need to follow up near an orthopedic doctor for continuing/follow up care!
