Reducing the appearance of a surgical defect?
One of my scars have faded nicely, but the one i.e. on the most visible portion of my forearm (close to the elbow, contained by a direct line near my thumb) has developed extra deformity tissue and is still fairly red. My doctor give me a medical term for what happen with the mark, but I can't remember what it is.
What works best to make the reddishness of the scar fade? I know I'll enjoy the bumpy scar tissue forever, but what can I do to net it less conspicuous (especially now that we are heading towards summer)?
I've tried vitamin e grease and Mederma, with one and only moderate success. Anyone own any other remedies I can try?
Answers: My guess is that your doctor called it a keloid. Some individuals are more prone to develop them, some areas of the body are more keloid prone.
Cosmetic surgery sometimes helps but is expensive, and the keloid may recur. Certain types of pressure dressings are said to eat up the occurrence, but not once the keloid have formed, I think.
A medical cosmetologist can afford you hints on how to mask the defect. Wish I had a better solution.
