One for a medical professional! HSV 1 cross-question - how long does it survive on fomites?
She have been prescribed oral Aciclovir. I am administering this via her gastrostomy, our GP is aware of this.
I am concerned almost cross infection as I also have a 3 1/2 year frail son, and of course verbs about her gastrostomy site, eyes and genitals, as it is easier said than done to keep her hand away from her sore mouth, and she touches her eyes now and consequently as most would, and also her Mic-Key button.
She doesn't touch her genitals often, but have attempted to wash herself surrounded by the bath!
How can I do my best to avoid her brother also becoming infected?
I'm doing my best but near limited education!
Are shared toys a risk if she has touched her mouth, next them? And for how long?

Answers: The first HSV outbreak can be awful. It can also be painful, so I might supply her some tyelenol or motrin (not sure which, since I don't know the rest of her med list).
The danger of spreading it by touch to the rest of her body is TRUE, but it is very unlikely that the virus would be spread by shared toys. HSV is almost exclusively transmitted by direct contact beside saliva or other mucous membranes (genitals, lips, etc). As long as the toys aren't still covered surrounded by saliva, they are likely sheltered. If he takes the toy without delay after it has be in her mouth, and puts it contained by his, then it could be transmitted that method. HSV is not spread in the heavens and is not usually spread via fomites.
