The clavicle is usually broken when the arms are extended to brace a crash, why is this?
Answers: When you're bracing yourself against a fall by extending your arms, your arms are forced backwards. The clavicle forms member of the joint where on earth the arms are attached to the body -- and because it's bent to allow the arms to extend backwards (if only at the shoulders) sufficiently to break the trip up -- it can snap.
