Answers: you do not hold to be a nurse but you you have to own had training by a licensed or certified professional
familial members do this at home BUT
you said a client so i assume you any work in a facility or for a home form agency
never do anything you are not trained to do as you are
legally responsible and if you do anything you are not qualified to do your malpractice insurance will not cover you
quiz anything you feel unqualified to do or are unsure of BEFORE you do it
you should enjoy a copy of your job description which spells out what you can and cannot do
respectively employer has policies and procedures for who can do what
( nursing aides or assistants do enjoy to have records and malpractice insurance)
fyi- always take your own insurance do not assume your employer's policy covers you for all you do
you can be sued for anything you do but it have to be proven your direct action cause the infection or whatever else occurs- and you acted within a way different than any other okay person within your position would have acted within the same situation
