What could I hold done better?

I just get off the dark shift from the hospital I worked for. I'm an RN. I'm feeling dismal right now, because one of my DNR( do not resusitation died from acute respiratory distress syndrome. What made this usual for me, is the 80 year outdated patient told me freshly before she coded, "that she want to live". I cannot resuscitate her because it will be consider freestyle or assault, because her power of atterney noted that she doesn't want her mother to be resusitated during emergency. All we can do is give her atropin via IV, but for some aim me and other nurses couldn't get to her artery soon in adequate, so she passed away. I'm feeling exceedingly bad right very soon, since I never heard of a dying merciful said "she wanted to live" those be her last words. Could I own done anything better?

Answers:    Respect for patient autonomy and tolerant goals ability that DNR orders must be respected unless in attendance is compelling evidence that overriding the DNR would be consistent with the patient's goal. If such evidence is lacking, the physician or attending personnel have no moral choice but to follow the DNR order literally. You enjoy a code of ethics which you must fulfil, even if it goes against your morals.
I am sorry to put it so bluntly, but you did not hold the autonomy to override a written statement made during times of lucidity, and you would have jeopardized your occupation.
Do not feel guilty because you be following your hospitals guidelines. If you must, go over the ethical code of your place of work, or gossip to the head RN almost how you feel.
I cannot step in depth give or take a few the convenience of accepting patient's DNRs, but if she signed it ...
We are humans, we are not infallible, and as time goes and you procure more experienced you will realize that things like those ensue. Sorry it happened that path.
take concern RN!..she is living!

she brought you to her beside and with your presence she lived a lucid finish!

thank yourself for your strength!
Oh, I'm sorry. How scary for her and how awful for you. I construe you probably did the best you can. Legally, you know you couldn't go against the DNR writ.

I think she's lucky to own passed away with such a kind person by her side.

(((hugs)))
