What are the benefits of meditation?

is meditation necessary or its of late a waste of time? what do you gain out of it and how is it done? some those say it relieves stress and thats why i'm curious to do it. does it raise health -- if so, how? Also is this a myth or reality --- only religious inhabitants meditate (like hindus, buddhists, etc) and others need not bother?

Answers:    There are abundant benefits to meditation. I personally believe it is called for because I don't think that I would be alive short it. Specifically I am referring to springforest qigong, but any form of meditation is a phenomenal way to moderate stress and improve strength. I have met lots people who agree beside me. The ways it improves form are too numerous to list but here's links:

nccam.nih.gov/ (put "meditation" into the look into feature at the top)
it relaxes your body and mind. so i reflect on it's worth it.
