Well, a righteous remedy for breaking up the mucus is to breath the fumes of Steaming hot water and cinnamon and other strong herb. It's liquefy the mucus and let you blow your trunk empty.
Now for the cough how ever, try some Menthol cough drops. resembling Vicks or something.
