Medication?

My DR put me on Efexor-XR 150mg for depression a couple months ago, but tonight I am going out with friends, I want to enjoy a few drinks with them, can i drink alcohol ,while taking the medication and if i drink how would it effect me afterwards?

Answers:    According to the labeling of this product, generic autograph venafaxine:

"Although venlafaxine has not be shown to increase the impairment of mental and motor skills caused by alcohol, patients should be advise to avoid alcohol while taking venlafaxine."

Before they put it on the market, they tested to see what would take place if they gave alcohol to someone who be taking it. They found that the use of alcohol did not have any effect on the height of the drug. They also found that the drug did not increase the effects of the alcohol. This test be on 15 healthy males. It might not hold true for everyone.

If you individual have a few drinks, likelihood are that nothing will take place. Most people do drink when taking antidepressants.

You might also want to phone your pharmacist.
The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) advise that you avoid Alcohol while taking Effexor XR, though they speak the same entity about Concerta but alcohol simply makes me drowsy.
I couldn't see on the FDA site any side effects from taking the tablets with alcohol except something going on for an increased risk of overdose.
Hope this has help.
