Answers:    I can only speak of the experience surrounded by my own family. My husband is an alcoholic. He other kept a job, we did not experience serious financial ruin, nor did we divorce.

The effects that it did/does hold on me, is that I lost trust in him. I still own a hard time trusting him adjectives the time, even though he has be sober for 17 months and shows no sign of relapsing. His personal insanity led me to believe that I be crazy too. He would manipulate me into thinking that I be the one who was man unreasonable. I would act irrationally, screaming, calling him name, thinking that there be no marriage to reclaim.

My kids experienced lasting effects as in good health. They are uncomfortable next to someone being angry of upset, due to the behavior both my husband and I used to exhibit when upset. They aren’t unbelievably eager to trust other relatives because we were not dependable.

Thank god for Al-anon and his sobriety and AA program. We are in a minute well on our road to being as "normal" as everyone else.

The alcoholic can be slighting verbally, physically, sexually. He can and usually developes various physical health problems such as cirrohis of the liver, heart failure, "pickled brain syndome", ulcers, diverticulites, and hold falls that cause injuries. Legal problems such as Public Intoxication, DUI, Family Disturbances, and possibly divorce. The alcoholic usally can't keep hold of a job which lead to severe financial problems.

The affect on the family..
Children:
1) Depression
2) Anger
3) Feel rejected
4) Higher penchant to become an alcoholic
5) Generally high suicide or suicidal ideation
6) Few friends
7) Physically abused
8) Many times neglected
9) Left alone and hold to take vigilance of themselves
10) Some occasions hold to take strictness of the parent

Spouse
Same as the child but worse
Usually end up divorcing the other spouse or are drinking near them.
