Constipation: If fecal "mucoid plaque" is a myth & colon cleanses are unnecessary, what's coming out of me?

I considered doing a colon cleanse such as Colonix to help next to my constipation problem, but I decided that if most MDs assume mucoid plaque is hooey and colon cleansing is unnecessary, I'm not going to buy into it. Instead, I started taking Metamucil (which is basically psyllium, a crude bulking agent used in various colon cleanses), and in increment to helping me finally have regular, soft BMs, it's cause me to pass lots of gross rubbery ropes that look merely like the photos of "mucoid plaque" on colon cleanse product websites. So what is this stuff, and do I involve to get rid of it? Doctors do recommend fiber bulking agents similar to psyllium for constipation, so I think these results are probably biddable for me, but I just want to know what's going on!
