No food or drink after midnight?
Answers: 8-10 hrs is rule of thumb for nothing to chomp through or drink before surgery, soooooo that resources no coffee in the am. They probably are have you come in 2 hrs rash to be prepared for surgery. I know it isn't often but occasionally a doctor may run ahead of calendar and they may take you more rapidly. The reasons they do not want you to chomp through or drink prior to surgery are the side effects of anesthesia and the possibility of vomiting which may cause aspiration of food or hose down into the lungs which can result in departure. Why risk it?
Call your doctor's office and ask what is the second time you can have something to drink or drink since your surgery is at 2pm.
Do not eat or drink anything as the advice state unless you have consulted your physician. You can lie back to them if you want and they may go ahead and do the surgery but you are the one on the operating table. They set these rules / regulations beside your safety surrounded by mind not theirs.
Emergency surgery is the possible loss of life lacking the surgery so they really aren't risking anything if you have something surrounded by your stomach. For non-emergent but urgent surgeries they WILL wait as long as possible earlier they operate.
I know it's a long time, and it sucks, but follow the instructions. If you eat or drink anything, you might throw up during the operation (and you could asphyxiate on your vomit) or be really sick after the operation.
If you hold questions call upon the doctor.
