Is it possible to acquire the flu more than once a year?
Answers: Yep.
Influenza is divided into:
1. Type A. Type A is further divided into around 25 "subtypes" based on what protein exists on the surface of the virus.
2. Type B. Less adjectives than Type A. Does not "shift and drift" like Type A, so is smaller quantity common.
3. Type C. Less adjectives. Responsible for mild respiratory infections.
What is shift and drift? Simply put, these are ways Type A produces new virus that are not recognized by the human immune system. You may own had several subtypes of Type A influenza. You hold my sympathy!
The above is greatly simplified, but that's how influenza works. You may want to read more at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/fluviruses....
