How can I support my spouse's attempt at not smoking? What can I do?

My girlfriend is trying to quit smoking and I'm not sure if i should try and enforce the gum (that's what she's trying with) or just tolerate her do it on her own.

When we were contained by line at the check-out next to the gum she asked if I could stay there while she go and smoked. I was tired and freaked out on her proverb "We've got gum contained by the cart. Can't you continue a until we buy it and pop in a piece?" I surmise that was a bleak way to start out. Any suggestions for me?

Answers:    Just consent to her do it her own way. Be supportive, and most importantly, be benevolent when she's a raving ***** for the next few days, weeks, even months. Quitting smoking is rough on adjectives parties involved!
