Answers:    The symptom of coughing up blood requirements to be distinguished from the more general symptom of blood surrounded by sputum, where blood may come from other cause than coughing (e.g. nasal bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.). Both coughing blood or blood in sputum are potentially tremendously serious symptoms that need prompt professional medical attention; Suddenly coughing blood or coughing massive amounts of blood is a medical emergency.

Coughing is a hostile act and it definetley irritates the pool liner of your trachea and pharynx --> this leads to small blood vessel bursting and you cough up blood. THis i not much to worry in the order of but you should try to get the cough lower than control with a prescription. If you cough up JUST BLOOD, run to the ER ... we're talking close to more than 2 ounces.
