If guys use drugs heavily, do they hold a prospect for birth defect?

I'm getting very serious almost a guy who I know in olden times has have very weighty drug usage, cocaine, meth, acid, etc....and still on instant uses them now. If I closing up wanting to have a kid near him....does anyone know if drug use on his part could effect his sperm within any way to result in any birth defects?

Answers:    People who maltreat substances can also damage the condition of their unborn children. For example, a woman who smokes marijuana during pregnancy can put the fetus at risk for a host of dangerous problems, such as low birthweight, developmental difficulties, and even drug addiction. Similarly, a woman who drinks alcohol while pregnant—perhaps since she even realizes she's pregnant—can explanation heart defects, growth retardation, and serious neurological injury to the fetus (commonly specified as fetal alcohol syndrome, or FAS).

Specifically, how does marijuana affect the fetus? Like alcohol and tobacco, marijuana use has be linked to low birth consignment and premature babies. One study showed that marijuana use by the mother is associated with slow embryo growth and spontaneous abortion surrounded by the early stages of pregnancy. Other studies hold shown that marijuana causes FAS-like symptoms within newborns, such as inexplicably shaped heads, small size, and nervous-system difficulties. Research also suggests that the fetuses of teen mothers, as opposing those of adult mothers, may be especially adjectives to the damage marijuana cause, especially during the first trimester (when the teen may not even know she's pregnant).

Symptoms such as excessive trembling and withdrawal-like irritability in newborn have also be associated with stout marijuana use by the mother.

In addition, THC, the helpful component in marijuana, can be passed from mother to infant through breastfeeding. This chemical is more concentrated within the mother's breastmilk than it is in her blood, and use of marijuana by breastfeeding mothers have been connected to motor development problems within newborns

In common, it is important to remember that the fetus can be exposed to anything that enter the mother's body. THC can pass freely through the placenta. If marijuana poses a condition risk to the mother's body, it also poses a potential risk to the fetus she carries surrounded by her body.

For males, studies have established that marijuana can lower sperm count, but the drug can also raison d`être slow-moving or abnormally-shaped sperm, which can ultimately lead to miscarriages, low fetal birth cargo, or other health problems. Also, simply smoking marijuana around a pregnant woman could endanger both the woman and the fetus if she inhales the secondhand smoke.

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), the overriding known motive of mental retardation is caused by protective alcoholism or heavy drinking during pregnancy

Features of FAS include growth lesser amount before and after birth; effects on the centralized nervous system such as intellectual impairment, developmental delay and behavioral problems; and changes surrounded by facial features such as a flattened midface, a small jaw, and a fine upper lip. .

Children with FAS commonly hold problems with study, attention, memory, and problem solving, along with incoordination, recklessness, and speech and hearing impairments

I own seen babies born of heroin, and cocaine addicted parents;- they be premature, hyperactive; and constantly crying with riotous trembling and have seizure- renunciation symptoms.

If I were you, i would avoid have a relationship with any guy near a drug addiction. This so-called addictive personality be used to explain the development of addiction. The addictive character was described as an escapist, unstructured, dependent, devious, manipulative, and self-centered. Many doctors now believe that these persona traits develop in addict as a result of the addiction, rather than the traits person a cause of the addiction

In combination to a preoccupation with using and acquire the abused substance, the diagnosis of addiction is based on five criteria:

loss of willpower
deadly consequences
unmanageable lifestyle
tolerance or escalation of use
withdrawal symptoms upon quitting

And that cravings will come rear legs to haunt you within later years. Besides, you exposed yourself to Hepatitis B and C and HIV and even Aids. not to mention that an addicted entity tend to be abusive. towards their loved one and enjoy mood swings.
If he has stopped using drugs I might consider getting involved next to him. I wouldn't do anything with him if he still uses, even on incident. As far as having a newborn with him, I ponder it would be okay because with men, the dilapidated sperm usually don't make it to the egg.
