Answers:    I've received potassium through an IV and I agree that it hurts. It feels burny as it is going into your capillary. Apparently when they tested your blood, you were low surrounded by potassium.

Potassium is an electrolyte that is critical to the function of brashness and muscles cells, including those contained by your heart. Low potassium (hypokalemia) has frequent causes. The most adjectives cause of low potassium is excessive potassium loss contained by urine or from the gastrointestinal tract, such as due to:

Certain diuretics
Chronic or severe vomiting or diarrhea
Impaired kidney function
Overproduction of a hormone (aldosterone) that causes your kidneys to excrete more potassium
Excessive use of laxatives
Eating disorders

If your potassium get too low, it can be life threatening.
