Hi, I had aortic valve re-placed, this is one of 4 valve in your heart. Most common to be re-placed are mitral and the aortic. I also have lung problems ,so I was fearful of the surgery, but came through and be off the ventalator within 24 hours after the surgery. It took me a right 3 months to get back on my foot and doing daily chores. I have a bovine stopcock in (thats cow) and had i certain then what I know now i would hold had a artficial valve put surrounded by because they last forever, and the kind i enjoy has to be re-placed in 5 to 10 years again. I don't know what to do prior to surg, but insist on cardiac rehab after. It'll make a world of difference within your recovery! Make sure you don't take asprin, vitamin E or drink green tea a week past the operation. These are all blood thinners. Good Luck with your surgery...I pray adjectives goes well.
