My daughter is six years old and recently have to have her appendix removed they found this by doing a cat scan told us she needed surgery to remove it...Before they took her to surgery they said oh by the way did you know she merely has one kidney they saw that on the cat scan... of course we didnt know that other clever i would have said something about it! She be born with one and we knew nil of this for 6 years?? Dont they check these kind of things during pregnancy with ultrasounds?

Answers:    People live to ripe ripened ages with one kidney. I have a friend that didn't know she solely had one until she was surrounded by her 40's. Like your daughter, it was detected through a scan. I know as a parent you must be worried. That is what we do. BUT believe me when I say we simply truly need one.

cat scan would not show. This is not something that is routinely checked since it is terrifically rare. She should live a full and normal natural life with one kidney. A reply to mlk_maid :
